Artist Statement
As a child I loved dot-to-dot puzzles. To see the image appear as the lines were connected in the proper order was amazing to me. The world I live in today is filled with the most amazing shapes and colors. For every dark there is a light, for every push there is a pull, for every contour there is a moment of silence. My goal is to recognize each of them with the respect that they deserve.
When I paint, it is more of a discussion between me and the painting rather than me telling anyone or anything what to do. Over the years, the painting process is less about the application of paint and more about the dialogue. If there is a theme to my work, I would have to say it boils down to three words: Life — Eternal — Present, not necessarily in that order and the meanings are left wide open.
Life is full to the brim with connections between people and places and things. In my current work I feel like I am still doing dot-to-dots. While considerable metaphorical, I represent these important connections in my work as lines and contours from different universes coming together to find alignment.
