ANGELA SCHULER
, Painting

Angela SchulerAngela Schuler’s abstract oil paintings have such dramatic energy that they make Mother Nature look sleepy on a peak autumn day. Working with a rich palette of deep golds, burgundys, reds, browns and occasionally very dark blues, Schuler bonds her paintings with a mark of royalty.
She describes her work as, “Blocks of color with texture, broken up with smaller contrasted blocks representing a landscape.” For special effect, Schuler sometimes integrates copper or gold leaf onto her palette, paints over it and scars it with a knife. The resulting extensions of gold glistening through an eclectic mix of intense color is a joyful surprise.
Abstract painting is likened to free-form poetry. The magic is in the imagery. The beauty is in the unpredictable. Schuler paints majestic poetry. - Monterey Wheeler
